In our fields, dove flocks don’t stop. Your birdboy keeps your gun loaded while you work through case after case, shooting from every angle. Everything changes when we hunt pigeons: in the blind, silence, concealment, reading the wind, and waiting to pull the trigger at the exact moment a pigeon flock comes into the decoys.

San Luis: Our hunting territory, preserved for twenty years
South Pioneers Lodge is located in northern San Luis Province – one of the few territories in Argentina where dove shooting and pigeon hunting has consistent results season after season.
Around the lodge, doves stream daily from their roosts to pivot-irrigated fields loaded with peanuts, corn, and soybeans-offering nonstop shooting.
We have been managing the area for over 20 years with an annual hunter quota to protect the pigeon population and guarantee the quality of the hunt season after season. Not because a regulation requires it – because we know it’s the only way to preserve what we’ve built over more than twenty years.
Our field staff – most of them with twenty years of experience guiding hunters in these same fields – scout pigeon and dove movement and feeding patterns daily. Each morning they put you where the hunting will be most productive, traveling mostly on paved roads to reach the best spots.
The man behind every hunt
Ramiro de las Carreras founded South Pioneers in 2004.
After scouting 10 provinces across Argentina, he was amazed by the sheer volume of dove and pigeon populations – both in the millions – and the region’s potential for developing a hunting lodge for both species. He had found ‘the place’!
The beginnings were difficult, as the region – a new agricultural frontier – lacked comfortable infrastructure to host visitors. Finally in 2015 he built a magnificent lodge, the only one in the area.
For years he has been scouting for doves and pigeons in the fields of northern San Luis, built access to the land, and put together the guide team that leads every hunt today. Everything at South Pioneers Lodge came from that work on the ground.

After the field, the lodge takes over
Our lodge features five double rooms. We keep groups small – that’s been the rule since day one. From the moment you arrive, our hosts are dedicated to making your stay as memorable as your time in the field.
When our guests sit down after a long day in the field, the chef meets them with Argentine cuisine: beef cut fresh off the grill, Mendoza wines chosen to match each course, and enough time at the table with your friends, to enjoy it properly. More than a few guests have told us dinner was the first thing they mentioned when they got back home.
For those looking to extend the trip, South Pioneers Lodge is the closest hunting lodge in Argentina to Mendoza – Malbec country, and one of the “10 Great Wine Capitals of the World.”
