Dove & Pigeon Hunting in Argentina

Doves and pigeons by the millions in an area with little hunting pressure.

A region built for doves and pigeons

Nestled in the northern region of San Luis Province, South Pioneers Lodge sits at the heart of Argentina’s newest agricultural frontier. More than 20 years ago, pioneering farmers settled in this vast valley, installing pivot irrigation systems surrounded by extensive roosting habitat. The unique combination of abundant crop harvests, ideal temperatures, and vast roosting areas created perfect conditions that allowed dove and pigeon populations to grow into the millions.

In this peaceful rural landscape, where life seems to move at a gentler pace, we established our lodge more than 20 years ago, amazed by the region’s extraordinary wingshooting potential from the very beginning. Today, we remain the only established outfitter in the area.

Join us on an unforgettable journey to a truly unique destination, where unpressured dove and pigeon populations, a modern and comfortable lodge, and the timeless beauty of rural Argentina come together for world-class shooting.

High-volume dove shooting plus consistent pigeon hunting

At South Pioneers, you’ll find the best of both species.

On dove shoots, your bird boy stands beside you, keeping your gun loaded while flocks come in from every direction and continue flying throughout the day. Shooting is fast and instinctive.

The next day we move to the pigeon hunt, and the whole rhythm changes. You get into the blind while the guide sets the decoys where the wind and the flight line are already taking the birds. You stay hidden while the birds approach the blind, choosing the exact moment to pull the trigger.

You can also hunt passing pigeons and over feed lots which, together with unlimited dove shooting, turns this trip into a wide variety of hunting experiences.

Discover why nearly 60% of our guests return, many of them between three and ten times.

The man behind every hunt

When Ramiro de las Carreras first came to northern San Luis, what held his attention was not one species but two – doves over the crops and, above those same fields, pigeon flocks in numbers he had not seen anywhere else he had scouted in Argentina.

He understood that this ground was different, and he built everything around that conviction: access to the land, the guide team, and in 2015 the lodge, the only one in the area.

Ramiro is on every trip, in the field, making sure each day delivers what it should for both species.

The lodge

Rest and hospitality built around hunters.

The elegant and comfortable lodge features five spacious double rooms, each with a private bathroom and walk-in closet, as well as large indoor and outdoor social areas with amazing mountain views. It is the perfect place to unwind with your friends after an exciting hunting day.

By the time you return from the field, the chef already has the grill going, and the evening concludes with a memorable Argentine gourmet experience accompanied by Mendoza wines carefully selected to complement each course.

South Pioneers is the hunting lodge in Argentina closest to Mendoza’s wine country, one of the “Great Wine Capitals of the World,” making it an ideal destination for those who wish to add a day or two of wine touring before or after their hunt.

Bill Blevins

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“We just returned from a fantastic 4 day dove/pigeon hunt. The food and staff are wonderful. The hunting was located a short drive from the lodge and the birds were non-stop. Ramiro de las Carreras, who owns the lodge, was on hand to drive you to the fields and see to every detail. Best dove hunting I have experienced in five trips to Argentina. Laundry service is included in lodge pricing and it was fantastic to have items washed, ironed and folded on your bed when you returned from hunting. A super nice touch to cap a super nice lodge!”

Ralphie Mayers

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Three of my pals and I stayed with Ramiro for four days of excellent dove wingshooting in early April 2017. This was our fifth trip to Argentina, all at different lodges. The lodge is very pleasant, has an outdoor pool that we used every day. The food prepared by Dino is as good as you get. Ramiro is hands on: he drove us to the fields every day, oversaw the bird boys, drove us to the airport. He pays great attention to detail. The hunting we had was close by, maybe a 20 minute ride. We came back to the lodge every day for lunch (except one day when we requested a field lunch). The shooting was varied and the birds flew all day. All in all, highly recommended”

“You simply cannot find a better place for pigeon and doves. The lodge is awesome and the staff is top notch! Its a must try for serious hunters or even if you just want to experience a once in a lifetime hunt. My family and I have been there for three years in a row and plan on returning every year! Ramiro and his staff will do everything in their power to make your trip the best possible.
