Argentina Pigeon Hunting

Up to 200+ birds a day, in small groups, on fields we've been hunting for 20 years.

Premier Pigeon Hunting in Argentina

With more than 20 years hosting hunters, South Pioneers lodge has earned a reputation among thousands of visitors as one of the premier destinations for world-class pigeon hunting.

This is far more than just a good hunt – it is a complete experience built around consistent pigeon hunting, first-class accommodations, gourmet cuisine, and the kind of attention to detail that experienced hunters recognize from the very first day.

That combination is what keeps our guests coming back year after year, and what inspires them to recommend us to fellow serious hunters.

Nearly 60% of our guests return, many of them between three and ten times.

Our hunting fields

The hunt is over more than 200,000 acres over the largest pivot-irrigated farming region in the north of San Luis Province, Argentina. From April to August farmers harvest peanuts, corn and soybean every.

That steady food supply keeps pigeons moving from roosts to the fields by the millions.

For over twenty years, we have been managing the area with an annual hunter quota to protect the pigeon population. Not because a regulation requires it – because it’s the only way to preserve what we’ve built.

Our seasoned field guides do the rest. They track pigeon movement and feeding patterns daily, so that every morning you are placed where shooting will be most productive.

What to expect at the field

The region offers a unique combination of natural and agricultural land that creates truly exceptional pigeon hunting: roots, cleared farming fields, irrigation pivots and feed lots all working together to keep birds moving throughout the day.

Over the farming fields and roosts, passing pigeons provide challenging shooting with targets coming from every angle. Around the feed lots, steady flights of pigeons create constant action and unforgettable moments in the field.

And then there is the timeless experience of English-style shooting over decoys: in the blind, in silence, waiting for the exact moment a flock commits to the decoys. It’s an experience every serious wing shooter should live at least once.

Through the owner’s eyes

The hunting experience is shaped by Ramiro de las Carreras, South Pioneers founder, through his direct involvement from start to finish.

More than twenty years ago, Ramiro found in northern San Luis what he had been looking for: a field surrounded by thousands of acres of roost, pivot-irrigated crops producing grain, and more pigeons and doves than he had ever seen. He built access to the land, assembled the guide team, and in 2015 completed the lodge – the only one in the area. Everything South Pioneers is today came from that work on the ground.

Ramiro is present at the lodge on every trip, overseeing logistics, field planning, and making sure each day meets the standard promised. That direct presence is not a detail – it’s the guarantee behind every booking.

Comfort and hospitality that match the quality of the hunt

The lodge was designed specifically to host hunters. Five rooms. Small groups – that has been the rule since day one.

When our guests sit down after a long day in the field, the chef meets them with Argentine cuisine: beef cut fresh off the grill, Mendoza wines chosen to match each course. More than a few guests have told us dinner was the first thing they mentioned when they got back home.

For those looking to extend the trip, South Pioneers is the closest hunting lodge in Argentina to Mendoza – Malbec country, and one of the “10 Great Wine Capitals of the World.”

Bill Blevins

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“We just returned from a fantastic 4 day dove/pigeon hunt. The food and staff are wonderful. The hunting was located a short drive from the lodge and the birds were non-stop. Ramiro de las Carreras, who owns the lodge, was on hand to drive you to the fields and see to every detail. Best dove hunting I have experienced in five trips to Argentina. Laundry service is included in lodge pricing and it was fantastic to have items washed, ironed and folded on your bed when you returned from hunting. A super nice touch to cap a super nice lodge!”

Ralphie Mayers

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Three of my pals and I stayed with Ramiro for four days of excellent dove wingshooting in early April 2017. This was our fifth trip to Argentina, all at different lodges. The lodge is very pleasant, has an outdoor pool that we used every day. The food prepared by Dino is as good as you get. Ramiro is hands on: he drove us to the fields every day, oversaw the bird boys, drove us to the airport. He pays great attention to detail. The hunting we had was close by, maybe a 20 minute ride. We came back to the lodge every day for lunch (except one day when we requested a field lunch). The shooting was varied and the birds flew all day. All in all, highly recommended”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“You simply cannot find a better place for pigeon and doves. The lodge is awesome and the staff is top notch! Its a must try for serious hunters or even if you just want to experience a once in a lifetime hunt. My family and I have been there for three years in a row and plan on returning every year! Ramiro and his staff will do everything in their power to make your trip the best possible.
